What We’ve Been Up to at The Lavender Owl Farm

It has been a full summer here at The Lavender Owl Farm.

After harvesting all of our lavender bundles in June, the work definitely did not stop there. Since then, we’ve been giving the lavender plenty of time to dry properly, and now we’re moving into the next stage: debudding, sorting, and packaging it up for sale.

There is something really satisfying about seeing the lavender go from rows in the field, to bundles hanging to dry, and finally to beautiful loose buds ready to be used in our products or enjoyed on their own.

And we have been using a lot of it.

Over the past several weeks, we’ve been busy making soaps, lotions, creams, oils, bath salts, sleep sprays, balms, and more. Some products have been selling out almost as quickly as we can make them, which has been exciting, and a little chaotic in the best way.

A big part of running a small farm is constantly moving with the seasons. During the warmer months, so much of our time is spent outside planting, weeding, harvesting, caring for the fields, and preparing for events. Once winter arrives and things slow down outdoors, we’re hoping to spend much more time inside crafting products from the lavender we worked so hard to grow and harvest this year.

We also tried something new this summer: a sunflower U-pick.

We honestly weren’t sure what to expect, but it did much better than we anticipated. Seeing people come out to the farm, walk through the flowers, take photos, and cut their own sunflowers was one of the highlights of the season.

Because of how well it went, we’re already planning to expand our U-pick offerings next year, including pumpkins!

So next season, visitors can expect even more opportunities to come out to the farm, enjoy the fields, and take a little piece of the season home with them.

For now, though, we’ll be surrounded by buckets of lavender buds, stacks of soap, bottles, labels, and probably more product ideas than we have time to make.

And we wouldn’t have it any other way.
